the University show

We are continuing with our new format of creating material for the show in a collaborative environment.

Everyone is welcome at anytime. You can participate in all aspects of the show, but you must be present at the specified times to contribute as a writer and/or performer.

Want to write for the show? Come at 7PM.
Want to perform in the show? Come at 8PM.
Want to watch the creation? Come at 9PM.

In honor of the start of Purdue’s 2011 Fall Semester, we are asking people to draw upon this event for their inspiration. Think of Purdue, students, university, classes, the Hello Walk, campus, the Village, coffee shops, house parties, the Union, clubs, grad students, dissertations, grants, loans.

Can’t make it? Call our voicemail art project, 312-DRY-TOFU (312-379-8638), to contribute via the phone. To be considered for this month’s show, you must call before August 28th.

Think! Found Magazine meets J&C Letters to the Editor. Their relationship grows stale and they put an ad on Craigslist. After a few days they meet Daniil Kharms. All is interesting and fresh again. As they grow old, the three of them enjoy reading Viola Spolin, William S. Burroughs, Keith Johnstone, and Albert Camus before they go to bed. Soundtracking their life’s journey are the works of Laurie Anderson, Jeffry Lewis, and Cecil Taylor.

Taking Indiana Very Seriously

While walking through the local farmer’s market and purchasing some lovely produce from the Cooley Family Farm, among other vendors, we were approached by Obama supporter wanting to know if everyone in our party was registered to vote. After telling her that we have been registered voters for a number of years, she asked if we knew about the Obama regional office opening at 514 Main St. We had heard about it, we told her. She then asked if we knew about the opening reception taking place at 1PM today, with former US Senator Birch Bayh as a guest speaker. That we hadn’t heard about, so we took a flyer and told her we would be there. We finished our shopping and went home.

When it was time to go, I headed towards downtown Lafayette. I parked the car in the 5th street garage and walked over to the address, 514 Main St. The office was setup in a decent size space, easily accommodating those that were in attendance. By the time the speakers started, the place was packed with local officials, young Obama supporters outfitted in the various Obama clothing lines, and several people draped in the campaign garb for local people running.

As usual, I recorded the whole thing. Below you will find MP3s of the entire speech, and each speaker’s speech as its own separate file. Further down, we included a short list of things we learned from attending this event. Enjoy listening to your local politicians.

Lafayette Food Co-Op Interview

At the first Farmers’ Market of the year, May 1st, we ran into some of the people doing surveys and interviews about starting a Lafayette Food Co-Op. We decided to do an interview ourselves. We talked to Cody, who is leading the way with this project.

It turns out there used to be one here for thirty years that finally died in the mid-90s. It’s time to bring this idea back to downtown Lafayette. If anyone has a inexpensive place that would need a little fixing up, please contact them!

The first audio piece put online that we recorded with our new Zoom H2 Handy Recorder. Let us know what you think.

This audio was taken on May 10th, at the Farmers Market, located on 5th Street in downtown Lafayette. We have Danny Weiss playing the saxophone, and entertaining the crowd early morning shoppers. Also, this is just a sample. There will be more!

You can hear the Danny Weiss Trio every Thursday night at the Black Sparrow from 10PM – 1AM.

The song is Jerome Kern’s All the Things You Are. Thanks for the update Danny!

What’s up with that? S01E12

What’s up with that? A show not hosted by Ryan Hill.

Wow. Another bank of audio finally. This stuff is from the 5th of October, so we’re a little back logged. Hopefully, with some new editing techniques, we can push through this pile and get the stuff out there to the masses. This portions questions were:

  1. Will you sing us a verse from your favorite song?
  2. What’s your opinion about the facts?
  3. How do you feel about the republic?
  4. What kind of plastic surgery should (fill in the blank with a politician’s name) should have?
  5. You’re starving, what do you need to be made out of in order to eat yourself?
  6. How do you feel about the pope running for president?
