Interview: Friday Before the Monday 2013-08-16 :: Why Did You Choose the Greater Lafayette Area?

A tradition we have is to interview the campus patrons on the Friday before the Monday classes start. It is a magical and enchanting evening filled with stories of the summer, serendipitous encounters, and the hope that this semester will be more positive than the previous.

This particular year, we focused on asking people why they were in the Greater Lafayette area, why they chose Purdue University, and their impressions of the urbanscape.

A few things we learned while conducting these interviews:

  • Fast paced to slower paced environment.
  • I chose this place because of Purdue.
  • Major difference between Illinois and Indiana? Slow. Different.
  • Desperation.
  • Go America. Live for freedom.
  • Until we done, we turn up.
  • Brian Lamb is from Lafayette and people know this.
  • Recruiters like Purdue because graduates are so willing to move wherever they off them a job.
  • Home Owners Association of West Lafayette
  • If students are your main economy, you need to feed the economy.

We hope you enjoy the meanderings we had throughout the evening as much as we did.

Here is What’s up with that? season 4, episode 2. It was another beautiful Saturday morning. Vast arrays of people gave us the pleasure of interviewing them, providing us with intriguing answers. We stood in our usual spot out by the brick wall in front of Jake’s taking in everything that is Breakfast Club. Come see us!

The past week’s questions were:

  1. What is your pledge to America?
  2. You see all of your hopes and dreams drowning in a pool of bureaucratic red tape—How do you save them?
  3. Faith, family, freedom, hope, and opportunity—Why do you hate these words?
  4. What is the most radical thing you could say that would cause shock, trauma , and your family to disown you?
  5. In one minute, give us a brief overview of your favorite ways to engage in debt.

We met someone who will be a famous artist someday. This clip can be heard near the end of the show.

Here is What’s up with that? episode 1, Season 4. It was a beautiful Saturday and we had an excellent group of people to interview. We stood in our usual spot out by the brick wall in front of Jake’s taking in everything that is Breakfast Club. Come see us next week!

The past week’s questions were:

  1. You have an app on your phone or mobile device that can control the stock market for one hour. How do you manipulate the system and use this power?
  2. Describe the joy and levity high fructose corn syrup…I mean, corn sugar brings you.
  3. President Obama appoints your mother and father to the economic advisory council and consumer bureau. What advice do they give the American people about their financial situation?
  4. The political party you belong to is morally corrupt, consistently spineless, and serves only its economic and political interests. Who are you going to vote for in November?

We also met a member of A Hero en Route and heard two people discuss why they believe Wikipedia is not a great source of information since everyone can edit its contents. These two clips can be heard near the end of the show.

Ahhh. Another year. Another season of What’s up with that? A show not hosted by Ryan Hill.

We ran into a bit of trouble trying to record our inaugural episode. The batteries died in our main recorder, but luckily we had a backup. Then our headphones broke, but we had a backup of them as well. It was almost an episode that would never be heard. We persevered and captured some interesting audio.

We finished recording late August 20th or early 21st depending on when you went to bed. We’ll see you out at Breakfast Club.
