Birthday Wishes and Summer Dreams

Alternatives to Television

Here at the Media Collective, we have several summer birthdays. Because of this, we have decided to release our Please Try Alternatives to Television in Lieu of Birthday Gifts Log to the world. It is a new idea we’re trying for this year’s round of birthdays. Hopefully we get some people to participate.

If you need to change something on the form, you can download and edit this Rich Text Format version. Please send us your changes. We would love to see them!

The idea is simple:

  1. Send people a link to the form with your birthday wishes/reminders.
  2. Have people get mad at the prospect of giving up their precious televisions.
  3. Check up on people to see how many hours they have given up and the activities they have done.
  4. Receive completed forms before your next birthday.
  5. Congratulate people who complete the task.

That’s it. It’s really that simple. If you decide to use this for your birthday, please let us know. We’d love to hear from you and we will post any results you happen to send our way. We will do the same if we get anything as well.

Television Theme Song Recall

We asked one of our friend’s to try and recite as many television theme songs as they could. This is that audio.

When Thundercats was mentioned, another one of our friends had to comment about Juno’s (the movie) inaccurate portrail of the Thundercats theme song.

The recording was made in downtown Lafayette during the first gallery walk of the year. You can hear one of the street musicians that were entertaining the crowds that night. Enjoy!

Sounds of an Empty Nest

Mac the Cockatoo

This is Mac the cockatoo. We recorded him on a visit to my parent’s house so we could have add him to the annuls of the Internet. My mother sent me a picture so we could accurately represent Macafee on the Internet.

My parents rescued Mac the Cockatoo from a neighbor who was mistreating him. I don’t know if they were prepared for this type of ambient noise. He doesn’t talk much. Usually only making farting and raspberry sounds at people he does not like. However, he will speak from time to time. Can you identify what Mac is saying in this clip?

The audio on this file is loud! You have been warned.

Or you could listen to them live May 30th, 10PM at Zoolegers. We had a few issues with the Zoom H2 (ID10T errors), but managed to get most of the show.

Lafayette Food Co-Op Interview

At the first Farmers’ Market of the year, May 1st, we ran into some of the people doing surveys and interviews about starting a Lafayette Food Co-Op. We decided to do an interview ourselves. We talked to Cody, who is leading the way with this project.

It turns out there used to be one here for thirty years that finally died in the mid-90s. It’s time to bring this idea back to downtown Lafayette. If anyone has a inexpensive place that would need a little fixing up, please contact them!
